How a vent clip is built
Four parts of a vent clip
A vent clip uses the car's airflow to carry fragrance through the cabin: the scent strengthens when the fan runs and settles when it stops. Think of it as four decisions. Changing one affects the others.
- 1The clip
Holds the product on the vent blade.
- 2The housing
Carries the brand: shape, color, finish and logo.
- 3The fragrance insert
Holds the scent: a fiber pad, a scented polymer, a liquid reservoir with a membrane, or a scented ceramic or wood piece.
- 4The refill
Replaces the insert while the housing stays in the car.
Clip types and vent fit
Pick the clip for the cars your customers drive
Car vents vary by brand, model and year, and many newer cars use slim horizontal vents or hidden outlets. The clip decides how securely the product sits and how level the face stays.
| Clip type | How it works | Fits well | Check first |
|---|---|---|---|
| Spring clip | A sprung clamp grips the vent blade | Most horizontal and vertical slat vents | Very thin or very thick blades |
| Fork / prong clip | Rigid or flexible prongs slide between slats | Standard slatted vents | Wide-gap or round vents |
| Hook clip | A hook catches behind the blade and pulls the housing tight | Deeper slats, heavier housings | Short-depth vents |
| Rotating clip | Clip head pivots so the face stays level | Vertical slats and angled dashboards | Adds height to the product |
| Round vent adapter | Clip or arm shaped for circular vents | Cars with round "eyeball" vents | Specific to round vent diameters |
Tell us which vehicles your customers drive most and we will suggest the clip types that suit them, then send samples so you can try the fit before you launch.
A heavier housing (glass, metal, large wood) needs a firmer clip to prevent sagging. Soft pads at the contact point reduce rattling and help protect vent surfaces.
Fragrance inserts
The insert decides how the scent behaves
The insert affects scent strength, how dry the product feels to handle, packaging needs and shipping documents. We recommend an insert type based on your price position and how you want customers to refill.
| Insert type | What it is | Character | Refill style |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fiber or pulp pad | Absorbent pad loaded with fragrance oil | Simple, light, economical | Replace pad |
| Scented polymer stick or disc | Polymer that holds fragrance in the material | Clean to handle, no liquid | Replace stick or disc |
| Liquid with membrane | Fragrance oil sealed behind a release membrane | Steady, visible liquid level | Replace cartridge |
| Liquid with wick | Reservoir with a wick drawing oil to the surface | Stronger release with airflow | Replace bottle or cartridge |
| Ceramic or wood carrier | Porous piece scented with oil | Reusable; customer adds oil drops | Refresh with oil |
Refillable range planning
Refills turn a single sale into repeat business
Each refill is made for its own housing, so the fit and scent release stay right from the first purchase to the tenth refill. To plan a refill line:
- Choose one housing that accepts a matching insert across all scents.
- Decide on refill pack sizes: single, twin or multipack.
- Offer the starter (housing + insert) and refills under the same scent names.
- Keep the insert dimensions and fit unchanged between production runs.

Branding and packaging
Housing, logo and pack: your brand on every part
Logo printing and color changes on an existing housing usually need no new tooling. New shapes or new clip mechanisms do, and we tell you early so budgets stay predictable.
| Surface | Methods |
|---|---|
| Housing color | Custom color molding matched to your references |
| Front face | Printing, embossing, debossing, engraving, metal or wood plate |
| Logo badge | Separate badge or plate fixed to the face |
| Insert | Colored inserts to identify scents |
| Pack | Window box, blister card, pouch or gift box with your design |

Vent clip FAQ
Vent clip questions
Comparing formats? A visor clip can suit cars with unusual or hard-to-grip vents.
Which cars will the clip fit?
Our clips are designed for the common slatted vents found in most cars, with options for round and slim vents. Send us your target vehicles and we will recommend a clip and send samples to try.
Can the scent strength be adjusted?
Some housings have an adjustable dial or slider. The fan speed also changes intensity.
Can I sell refills separately?
Yes. Refill inserts can be packed singly or in multipacks under your brand.
Can you put my logo on an existing vent clip?
Yes. Printing, engraving or a logo plate on an existing housing is the fastest way to a branded product.
Are vent clips clean to use?
Dry inserts (pads, polymer, ceramic) contain no free liquid at all. Liquid inserts are sealed behind a membrane or closure, and we check every closure and seal during production.
Vent clip or visor clip?
If your target cars have unusual or hard-to-grip vents, a visor clip may be the better option.
